Originally Performed by Pentatonix 'Take On Me' is a song by Norwegian synth-pop band A-ha, first released in 1984. The original version was produced by Tony Mansfield and remixed by John Ratcliff. A new version was produced by Alan Tarney for the group's debut studio album Hunting High and Low (1985). Norwegian group A-ha took the American pop scene by storm in 1985 when Take On Me reached #1 thanks to an appealing style and also an innovative music video featured on MTV. Perfectly suited for the marching field, this arrangement contains all the drive and energy of the original. FLUTE/PICCOLO 2 pages - BB CLARINET 2 pages - EB ALTO SAX 1 page. How to Play the Chords on Guitar

Here are the tabs for how to play the necessary chords for this song on guitar. Note that I'm including the basic E chord, as well as the E/G# -- the latter being much trickier to play, and optional should you want a more advanced manner to play the song. If the E/G# is giving you problems, you can replace it with a standard E chord and be just fine.

Intro Tab, Simple

This approach to the intro tab utilizes the open E string as much as possible, which undoubtedly makes it easier for you to play. This is the same version described in the Marty Schwartz video guitar lesson included on this page.

Intro Tab, Advanced

Here is a sightly more advanced approach to the intro, should you want to be able to strum the full chords a bit while you play. Here, in the beginning of each measure I show the chord placement your hands should be in. Directv now what do you need. This allows you to strum all strings used in the chord, while at the same time emphasizing the strings heard in the main melody. This version matches Totally Guitars lesson included on this page.

Recommended Guitar Lessons

There are a few great guitar tutorials for this song. I would start by recommending that of Marty Schwartz, whose guitar lesson can be found here:

Also, there is that from Totally Guitars. While this video is only a teaser, you can immediately see the different approach taken to playing the intro riff with full chord strumming (while the Marty version is more simply concerned with picking a single string at a time).

My name is David Potsiadlo, and I created Songnotes to share my collection of guitar tabs, chords, and lyrics for my favorite songs.

Since I started playing guitar over 10 years ago, I've often been frustrated by the preponderance of mediocre and incomplete song tabs littered across the internet. To combat this, I started keeping my own collection of notes for each song I learn -- always taking the extra time to make sure accuracy and completeness are never compromised. Years later, my collection grew to the point where I knew I had to share it online with fellow aspiring musicians.

In December 2012, I began designing & developing a website that became Songnotes. Here, I share my personal collection of hand-crafted music notation with all those online. I hope you enjoy.
